VILLAFÁFILA: Jurisd. Ant. In the province of Zamora, made up of the towns of Revellinos, San Agustín and Villafáfila. V. with a town hall in the province of Zamora (7 leg.), judicial district of Benavente (3), diocese of Astorga (11), aud. terr. And cg of Valladolid (15). SYS. in a somewhat deep plain: its CLIMATE is temperate and it suffers from malignant tertians and quartans, which originate the salt flats that surround the town. It has 330 HOUSES distributed in 27 streets and 3 squares: the town hall and jail; school of first letters endowed with 2,200 rs. attended by 80 to 100 children, and 4 parochial churches (Sta. María, San Martín, San Pedro and San Salvador) served by their respective priests: those of the two primary ones are free income and provision, the one of the third of first ascent and entrance the fourth, and both of presentation of the parishioners; there is a source of good and abundant water that the neighbors take advantage of for their domestic consumption. It borders with San Agustín, Otero de Sariegos, Villarrín and La Granja de Moreruela: in its term the desp. of Salinas, and the preserve of the Table. The LAND is of medium quality, flat and dry. At ¼ leg. O. of the population there are extensive salty lagoons, which were used in the saltpeter factory of the v. established by Carlos III; now you no longer exist. The PATHS lead to Zamora, neighboring towns, Asturias and Extremadura; receives CORRESPONDENCE from Benavente, PROD.: cereals, wine and pastures; breed sheep, and hunt hares and partridges. An annual fair is held on June 24, reduced to half a dozen mountain carts with tools for farm work, and a few stores; There is a market on Tuesdays of each week. POP.: 289 times; 1. 1158 people CHAP. PROD.: 1,071,512 rs. IMP.:87.516. CONTR.: 26,866 re. 23 mrs.

Reduce to this population the ant. Vicus aquarius that appears in the Roman Itinerary.

SARIEGOS MOUNTAIN

OTHER OF SARIEGOS. I. with ayunt. in the province from Zamora (9 leg.) part. Jude. of Benavente (4) dioc. of Astorga (10), aud. terr. and cg of Valladolid (17): SIT. on a slope with exposure to O; its CLIMATE is temperate and healthy. It has 29 HOUSES; church par. (San Martín), served by a priest at the entrance and presentation of the Duke of Frías and Uceda, and good drinking water, borders the terms of Revellinos, Villalba de la Lampreana and Villafáfila. The GROUND is uneven and of medium quality. The ROADS go to the neighboring towns; receives correspondence from Villafáfila, PROD.: grains, legumes and pastures; breed sheep, and some hare hunting. POPULATION: 25 residents, 102 people. CHAP. PROD.; 193, 226 reais. IMP.: 15,836. COTR.: 3,240 rs., 22 mrs.
